The Plant
MAJSA owns and maintains a comprehensive sanitary sewer system consisting of 110 miles of collector and conveyance sewers and a modern secondary treatment plant with breakpoint chlorination for ammonia removal. The treatment plant, located in Dorrance Township, was expanded and upgraded beginning in 2000 and completed in 2002. The plant was again modified beginning in 2006 to meet the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources 2005 Chesapeake Bay Initiative.
The plant is currently rated and permitted to discharge 4.16 MGD, and has been retrofitted with some of the most up-to-date treatment and control technology available. It has also been designed and built to allow for future expansion with a minimum of cost and disruption to operations.
